Classic Rib (and similar exposed-fastener profiles) screws directly through the panel face into the structure below, with a sealing washer under each screw head. It is the most common metal roof in rural Tennessee for a simple reason: it delivers most of metal's durability at roughly half to two-thirds the installed cost of standing seam.
The honest trade-off. Those washers are the wear item. Over 20 to 30 years, UV and thermal cycling harden the rubber, and screws can back out slightly. A screw-down roof therefore wants a fastener inspection every decade or so, and eventually a re-screw — a straightforward, inexpensive maintenance job, not a re-roof.
Where we recommend it. Barns, equipment sheds, workshops, detached garages, agricultural buildings, and homes where budget genuinely decides the outcome. On a simple gable with long uninterrupted runs, a well-installed Classic Rib roof performs beautifully.
We install with quality gasketed fasteners at the correct spacing and torque, closure strips at the eaves and ridge, and proper trim — the details that separate a 30-year panel roof from a 12-year one.

Metal roof vs. architectural shingles — which is better?
Both are excellent when installed right; they solve different problems.
Architectural shingles (like GAF Timberline HDZ) cost roughly half as much installed, look right on most Middle Tennessee homes, install in a day, and carry outstanding warranties. For most homeowners, they're the sweet spot.
Standing-seam metal costs significantly more up front but lasts 40–60 years, sheds storms beautifully, and can lower cooling bills. It makes the most sense if this is your forever home, or on farmhouse/modern styles where the look is the point.

What warranty comes with a new GAF roof?
Two layers of protection:

That second layer is the one most homeowners never get.
